Audience participation GPA

I think the game show that uses audience participation most effectively is  "lets make a deal". This game show is effective because anyone in the audience can be chosen to take part. This makes it exciting because you don't know who is going to be picked. It makes people want to go and see it live for the chance to get picked. The USP of this game show is that all the contestants are dressed up to make it more fun.

Game show criteria

Research as many TV game shows that fit this criteria and explain their USP.

Criteria:
Create a game show to air Monday to Friday at 3:30 to 4:30pm. The target audience for this show is educated men and women age 30+.

Pointless

Pointless is aired at 5:15pm on Mondays to Fridays every week. This game show is aimed at people 30+ who have a good general knowledge. In this game show the audience are encourages to play along at home and there are a series of questions based on different topics. The USP of this game show is that the aim is to get the lowest possible score rather than the highest. They have to find answers to the questions that none of the previously asked general public have not said. It is aimed at educated adults because a lot of the topics are past knowledge and present also the questions can be more difficult for a younger generation to answer.

Countdown

Countdown is aired at 2:10pm on Mondays through to Fridays every week. This game show is aimed at educated adults because it is challenging. The contestants have to find words out of a bunch of letters or make a number using certain numbers, therefore younger people would not be able to enjoy this show as it would be difficult to them making it boring. This shows USP is that there isn't another show like it, countdown has aired for decades so no one has copied their idea making it one of a kind. A famous aspect of countdown is the iconic countdown clock and the theme tune.

Eggheads

Eggheads is aired at 6pm on Mondays to Thursdays. The games shown is aimed at an older generation. The game show is a general knowledge quiz in which people challenge the 'eggheads' to beat them. The questions in this game show are based on older topics and are made for adults therefore younger people would not enjoy this programme because it would be difficult and less entertaining. The USP of this game show is that they get to choose one of the eggheads that they want to compete against. You can also compete in make me an egghead to become one of the eggheads on the show.

Exam Preperation

How can you market your own TV Game Show through advertising across a range of platforms, including E-Media?

I can market my game show on television during the advert on the TV channel that it will be aired on and other channels that are under the same management. This will allow the audience to see what the game show is about and what it looks like. This will attract a large audience.

I would also use social media to advertise my game show. Social media is widely used throughout the world so by putting an advert on social media will allow millions of people to find out about my game show. There are a range of different social groups on different social media websites so by advertising on these websites I will attract different types of people to watch my game show.

I would also advertise my game show on the radio. Many people listen to the radio in the morning and all day in the car. By advertising on the radio will attract a lot of listeners. Also by advertising on the radio makes it more exciting because the listeners want to find out what it looks like as they can only hear what it is about. This will make a wider audience watch my game show.

Audience Interaction

Game shows incorporate audience interaction by asking questions. They sometimes get the audience to do a vote or for one to take part in a challenge. By doing this you involve the audience more in the game which makes the audience interact more.

https s3 ap southeast 2.amazonaws.com mi9 vms images prod 2016 03 8203 BackInTheRoom EndframeYou're back in the room interacts with the audience. When the contestants are hypnotised they sometime go and interact with an audience member in a funny way. This makes the audience feel more involved and makes it more interesting because the contestants don't know what they are doing because they are hypnotised. It makes it enticing because it is unpredictable what the contestants are going to do.

Another game shows that has audience interaction is lets make a deal. Each episode consists of several "deals" between the host and a member of the audience, referred to as "traders." Audience members are picked at the host's fancy as the show moves along, and couples are often selected to play together as traders. The deals are mini-games within the show that take several formats. this makes the show interesting because you don't know who is going to be picked to make a deal. The audience have come to have a chance of getting picked. The audience interact more to get the hosts attention to try and get picked to take part.

Selecting contestants

What are the most important considerations for producers when selecting contestants?

When selecting the contestants the produces look for people who stand out from all the other people who apply for the show, they have something special about them or something has happened to them in their life. Also they may have a special occasion they want to celebrate such as proposing to someone which will be intriguing for the audience and will grab their attention. They may pick contestants that have a fear of something that's they have to face such as in a celebrity because it makes it more interesting for the audience to see how they will react. Another reason may be that they will make the program more amusing for the audience for example you see people on total wipeout that are terrible at it or people that dress up and have funny background stories to tell to make the audience laugh and continue watching the show. They would like to have a range of different personalities and even appearances on the show to differentiate the episodes to keep the audience engaged. The contestants mainly have to be funny, confident and outspoken, they need to be likeable by the target audience of the show.

Gameshow visual analysis

Wheel of Fortune

Aim of the game

Contestants guess hidden phrases by guessing letters one at a time. Contestants win money or prizes, as determined by a spin of the wheel, for each correct consonant they guess. But they have to pay to see what vowels are in a puzzle. The contestant that has amassed the most winnings at the end of a game goes on to play the bonus round, in which the player can win even more -- prizes frequently seen in the bonus round include automobiles, vacations and more cash

In the American series there is a panel that the contestants stand behind. Below each contestant there is a money value of how much they have won so far. After each round whoever won their money gets put into their 'bank' that appears at the top of the board with the questions on. The genre of each question is shown at the bottom of the screen for the audience to see so that they can play along as well. There is also a screen that displays the phrases with missing letters to guess, this is there for the contestants to see but also for the audience so that they can play along at home. This adds to the audiences enjoyment because rather that just sitting watching the show they can compete as well with other members of the family who are also watching to make it more exciting. On the wheel there are different values of money and some segments also have a prize such as a cruise. To advertise the prize that they could win on that round they show a short video to the contestants but also full screen to the audience so they know exactly what the contestants are playing for. There are different types of questions but with the same objective to guess the words or phrases. Some questions they have to choose letters others the letters appear one by one and they have to guess it when they can.

Game Show Gimmicks

THE WEAKEST LINK- You are the Weakest Link! Goodbye!
A QUESTION OF SPORT- What Happened Next?
EGGHEADS- Can they be beaten?
ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A TEN YEAR OLD- I am/am not smarter than a/my ten year old.
MASTERMIND- I've started so I'll finish.
COUNTDOWN- Start the clock.

Jingles

Why are jingles important?

Jingles are important because they are the main part of the show that is catchy and people tend to recognise most, thing is whey they have to be a catchy tune with a good beat. If the tune is successful in being memorable the audience will be able to know when the show is coming on by hearing the intro that way they wont miss the show. A lot of into today are very popular and are a key part of the shows success, a lot of people find that the jingle is the best part of the game show because it is something that they can remember for years. In the future when they hear the tune after a long time they should be able to remember what show it was from because it has been so successful. People also like to sing along to the theme tune which makes the game show more exciting, especially children game shows.

Worksheet 8-Gameshow Intros
Listen to the intro to 4 different game shows describing the style, pace, instruments, beginning-middle-end of each track and its impact.

COUNTDOWN
It's starts of with just having the tick of the clock as the monotone until more instruments join in. The tune resembles the passing of time, the pace is quite quick and upbeat which makes it catchy and creates tension. The tune is in time with the ticking of the clock. At the end of the track it softens to only the ticking of the clock. The tune of the intro is also used slightly when the clock is being used throughout the game show, therefore it is very recognisable to the audience.

FAMILY FORTUNES
The into is very upbeat and fast which connects with the genre of the game show as it is for families. One of the instruments used is a bass drum which creates the upbeat 'happy' feeling, the beat also is catchy which makes it recognisable to the audience. Towards the end the audience begin to start clapping with the theme tune. The song plays right through until the host walks on stage and starts to introduce the game.

THE CUBE
At the beginning the voice over starts to explain the rules of the game and the prizes available. This is said over intense music. The music sounds like something being produces by an orchestra. At the end the host introduces the game and the music come to a sudden stop. It the picks back up again when the title of the game show is appearing on the screen. It then ends with the voice over whispering the words 'the cube' The music is very fast and loud to create the tension.

TOTAL WIPEOUT
The host starts to introduce where the course is in this episode and all about the contestants taking part and the obstacles that they will face. They are describing how hard and unique the courses are and what they consist of. Also what the contestants win. The music in the background is very intense with a strong beat. The tune seems very gradual and victorious by using pitch scales. It sounds like something very old that would be used during battles. The voice over with the music makes the intro very recognisable to the audience.

Exam Practise

Monday 8th October 2016

How does the game appeal to young people?
The game show is about children getting their own back on their parents for doing something they think was wrong. E.G embarrassing them. They have to compete against each other is a range of physical activities. For example the kids have to try and do a task but the parents have to try and stop them. This appeals to youngsters because it is very comical and the children of the children can relate to the kids on the show with their parents. The game show isn't very serious so it wouldn't disinterest the children, it is very active and funny to watch, so it keeps the children entertained. They would also like this because they would cheer along for the children to beat their parents. There are also no adverts in between so that the child will not walk away or turn off the chow during the commercials because they are boring.
Image result for get your own back

What are the prizes?
The child that gets the most points combined throughout the game show get to have their parenmt dunked in the gunk, they have to answer questions and if they get the answer wrong they are lifted higher from the dunk tank so they have to fall from a higher height. They also get their own clock of the show and their own jacket as well. The other child and their parent get to take home a souvenir photo of them on the show and a  "get your back jacket".
Image result for get your own back

Are there any similarities between children's game shows and adults?
A lot of adult game shows are also very physical based and they both have to complete a variety of tasks to win. In both adult and children game shows they normally have a final round at the end which is where they decide how much or what they have won for themselves. For example in Total Wipe-out have 3 rounds that the contestants have to face before coming to the final where only 3 contestants compete for the fastest time. In get your own back, they have to compete a series of challenges before getting to dunk their parent in the finale.
Image result for total wipeout

What are the differences?
Adult game shows can be very serious such as answering questions at a panel. This could be shows such as countdown or a question of sport. They can also be repetitive in the challenges that the contestants face, Such at total wipe-out, therefore children can get very inattentive with the show. On the other hand children's game shows are lively and there is always something happening, if they were to have dull moments the child would become uninterested. This is also why children's shows don't tend to have adverts because the children can get bored during them.

GAME SHOWS HOMEWORK

Why do people want to appear on game shows?
People want to appear on game shows because they may have the chance to win a sum of money that could mean a lot to them. This could help them out with any problems that they have or just reward themselves and their family with a holiday or something of luxury. People also apply because they want to appear on TV and be seen by their friends and family. Sometimes a whole family appears on a game show, this may be because they want to have some bonding time together or just to have some fun. If the contestant is a celebrity they may be competing to win money for a charity of their choice.

TANGIBLE
INTANGIBLE
Money
Charity money
Cars
Acknowledgement of achievement
Holiday
Personal development (skills)
Trips/Experiences
TV appearance

How are these prizes funded?
Cash prizes are paid by the show, and the money comes from the producers, who are paid by the advertisers/network

There can be a couple of "safeguards" that make this a little easier for the shows. They can have an insurance policy to protect them from huge losses. For example, the insurance company says, we've studied the odds of your game, and we'll sell you a policy for $200,000 up front, that pays out full prize money any time someone wins $100,000 or more during this season of the show. Smart insurance company’s study the gameplay and sort out the odds of how many players will win big.

For really big prizes ($1,000,000), shows may pay similar to a lottery, where the money is in a fund that pays over x years, or the winner can take a reduced lump sum immediately. For example, if you win $1 mil on a show, they might tell you (after the show is done taping) "okay! we can give you $50,000 a year for the next 20 years, or we can pay you $450,000 lump-sum right now and that's all you get."

Product prizes show sponsors typically donate those in exchange for exposure. That's why whenever it's a new car (or vacation package, or furniture set, or whatever), they spend a while talking about the features of the prize and then say "donated by...." That's TV advertising for the sponsor, in exchange for the prize.
Three most common ways of funding:
  • sponsorships
  • adverts/commercials
  • contestants fee
What type of people do producers want on the show?

The producers what someone who is outgoing and interesting to watch on television. They also have to be skilled and confidents whilst on air. The producers will look for someone who is natural and themselves whilst filming. The producers will judge people depending on what the audience will like and appeal to.

Questions that may be asked:
How old are you?
Have you ever appeared on a game show?
What are your talents/weaknesses?
Why are you auditioning?
Why would you like to win?

SONG CHANGE

We have decided to change our song to Elevate by Lukas Rieger as it is not as well known however has a good steady beat. we felt that our old song didn't fit as well to what we had in mind for our music video but we find this one fits much better. Also we were getting a bit bored of having to listen to that song but as this one is a new song we find it easier to work with.

Step 3- Task 4

REPRESENTATION AND AUDIENCE

PSYCOGRAPHICS

The ethos of our band is based around young, energetic teens. This will hopefully attract fans of pop/house music who like artists such as David Guetta, Major Lazer, Pia Mia, ect. The message is about expressing yourself through dance, using emotions and having fun as you are only young once. The psychographics our band will target are Explorers and Reformers because they don't want to be tied down or restricted and through our music they will express this and have freedom.

DEMOGRAPHICS

Our band will target the full range, however it will have emphasis on teenagers and people aged around 12-28 and categories C-E- who have more time to listen to music and up to date with todays style of music. Also they are able to let loose and have fun after school/work.

Monday, 9 May 2016

Step 3-Task 2&3

Group for our Music Video

The group for our music video will be called 24Seven. This is a made up group, we have chosen this because it will be easier to connect them to the music video and the genre which is Dance/Pop. Our genre will intrigue a younger generation because is brand new and is number 1 on the charts at the moment, this will help them understand the music video and can relate to it. As we have chosen a group as our artist we can add more people to our music video to make it more effective.

Performance and Narrative for our Music video

For our music video we have decided to use a combination of performance and narrative because it creates a variation in the music video so it will not be boring. Also you can show the audience the artist themselves during the performance parts but during the narrative scenes we can tell a story that the audience can relate to which will help our music video by making it more effective and successful. We will make the story relate to the song so that the audience can think about and understand the lyrics of the song. We will try to make the video fun and adventurous so it intrigues the audience but also be fun for us to film. We are thinking of using multi-coloured wire-pull smoke grenades and maybe confetti canons or streamers. We would like to make it look like a party with lots of colour. We are still unsure about the performance as we want to know who will be performing and the location of where the performance will take place.

Step 2-Task 8

My product

What is it ?-
My product is a 'Brain Writer'. it is a pen that writes what you think. the way it works is that you wear a headband that  detects what you are thinking and transmits the information to the pen. The pen itself has different fonts and sizes that you can pick from by selecting it on the pen. You can also choose they colour you want to write in. There is also ink refills that are available that last 10 times longer than any original pen ink.

Prices-
The price for this pen will be £49.99.
You can also by ink refills for £14.99.

Target audience-
This pen is recommended to be used by any person over the age of 10, unless they're parents allow them to. The pen is easy to use and eco-friendly. The headband can be adjusted to fit the owners head. This pen is useful to secondary students especially those who have exams. it also helps people that cannot use their hands to write or find it very difficult.

Advertising-

Print: I will use print adverts, to put in newspapers and magazines to attract adult customers to use the product when they are at work and for leisure. These print adverts will have a bright background so that people can see it. Also I will use big fonts so that everyone can read it and that it stands out beyond other duller adverts in the magazine or newspaper.

TV: I will put up an advert on the so that a wide range of people can see the product and create more customers. This advert will describe all of the features of the product and I may put a promotional code of they buy it from seeing the advert. By doing this it would get my product out in the public and help will revenue.

Billboards: I will use billboards to display my product. These would be shown in popular towns and cities to attract different kinds of customers. The advert would be big, bold and bright as it would attract the readers attention.

Social media: I will use social media to advertise my product as it is an effective way of putting your product into the world. Social media is also the new trend that everyone uses today. This means that it would attract many people of different cultures and gender to buy the product and make it more popular. People can also share the product with others through social media to get more interest.

Radio: I will produce a radio advert for my product. This is because many people listen to the radio at home, at work and mostly in the car. This will help product to gain more popularity and to make revenue. Also certain words trigger people's brains and people can picture the product from certain words without even seeing the product before. You may even put a promotion on the radio for customers to buy your product.

Step 2-Task 4,5&6

Persuasive Strategies

Pathos- is a quality of an experience in life or a work of art that stirs up emotions of pity, sympathy and sorrow. Pathos can be expressed through words, pictures or even with gestures of the body. This is effective because it catches the audience attention and makes they feel empathy which persuades them to help. For example this advert shows a picture of a boy who doesn't look that great and the audience especially parents would want to help because they can imagine what it would be like if it was their child who needed help.

Image result for pathos example

Logos- is persuading by the use of reasoning. the use of statistics is popular. focusing on facts, recorded evidence, historical data also by studies and surveys. This is effective because it makes the advert more real and effective because you can see what exactly is happening in the world. For example this advert is showing how tobacco is bad and how it can kill which puts things into perspective for people that smoke and tells them that if they don't stop that they will just be another percent added to the total.

Ethos- is convincing by the character of the author. we tend to believe people whom we respect by using someone of authority. it also includes testimonial and appeals to fundamental rights. This is effective because people look up to there idols and if they have something and they say that it is good and that we should buy it then people will just because they said to and whats good for them is great for us. For example Jennifer Anniston is promoting smart water and because she is a very well known actress people will follow what she does.
