Step 2-Task 4,5&6

Persuasive Strategies

Pathos- is a quality of an experience in life or a work of art that stirs up emotions of pity, sympathy and sorrow. Pathos can be expressed through words, pictures or even with gestures of the body. This is effective because it catches the audience attention and makes they feel empathy which persuades them to help. For example this advert shows a picture of a boy who doesn't look that great and the audience especially parents would want to help because they can imagine what it would be like if it was their child who needed help.

Logos- is persuading by the use of reasoning. the use of statistics is popular. focusing on facts, recorded evidence, historical data also by studies and surveys. This is effective because it makes the advert more real and effective because you can see what exactly is happening in the world. For example this advert is showing how tobacco is bad and how it can kill which puts things into perspective for people that smoke and tells them that if they don't stop that they will just be another percent added to the total.

Ethos- is convincing by the character of the author. we tend to believe people whom we respect by using someone of authority. it also includes testimonial and appeals to fundamental rights. This is effective because people look up to there idols and if they have something and they say that it is good and that we should buy it then people will just because they said to and whats good for them is great for us. For example Jennifer Anniston is promoting smart water and because she is a very well known actress people will follow what she does.
