How does the game appeal to young people?
The game show is about children getting their own back on their parents for doing something they think was wrong. E.G embarrassing them. They have to compete against each other is a range of physical activities. For example the kids have to try and do a task but the parents have to try and stop them. This appeals to youngsters because it is very comical and the children of the children can relate to the kids on the show with their parents. The game show isn't very serious so it wouldn't disinterest the children, it is very active and funny to watch, so it keeps the children entertained. They would also like this because they would cheer along for the children to beat their parents. There are also no adverts in between so that the child will not walk away or turn off the chow during the commercials because they are boring.
What are the prizes?
The child that gets the most points combined throughout the game show get to have their parenmt dunked in the gunk, they have to answer questions and if they get the answer wrong they are lifted higher from the dunk tank so they have to fall from a higher height. They also get their own clock of the show and their own jacket as well. The other child and their parent get to take home a souvenir photo of them on the show and a "get your back jacket".
Are there any similarities between children's game shows and adults?
A lot of adult game shows are also very physical based and they both have to complete a variety of tasks to win. In both adult and children game shows they normally have a final round at the end which is where they decide how much or what they have won for themselves. For example in Total Wipe-out have 3 rounds that the contestants have to face before coming to the final where only 3 contestants compete for the fastest time. In get your own back, they have to compete a series of challenges before getting to dunk their parent in the finale.
What are the differences?
Adult game shows can be very serious such as answering questions at a panel. This could be shows such as countdown or a question of sport. They can also be repetitive in the challenges that the contestants face, Such at total wipe-out, therefore children can get very inattentive with the show. On the other hand children's game shows are lively and there is always something happening, if they were to have dull moments the child would become uninterested. This is also why children's shows don't tend to have adverts because the children can get bored during them.
