Gameshow visual analysis

Wheel of Fortune

Aim of the game

Contestants guess hidden phrases by guessing letters one at a time. Contestants win money or prizes, as determined by a spin of the wheel, for each correct consonant they guess. But they have to pay to see what vowels are in a puzzle. The contestant that has amassed the most winnings at the end of a game goes on to play the bonus round, in which the player can win even more -- prizes frequently seen in the bonus round include automobiles, vacations and more cash

In the American series there is a panel that the contestants stand behind. Below each contestant there is a money value of how much they have won so far. After each round whoever won their money gets put into their 'bank' that appears at the top of the board with the questions on. The genre of each question is shown at the bottom of the screen for the audience to see so that they can play along as well. There is also a screen that displays the phrases with missing letters to guess, this is there for the contestants to see but also for the audience so that they can play along at home. This adds to the audiences enjoyment because rather that just sitting watching the show they can compete as well with other members of the family who are also watching to make it more exciting. On the wheel there are different values of money and some segments also have a prize such as a cruise. To advertise the prize that they could win on that round they show a short video to the contestants but also full screen to the audience so they know exactly what the contestants are playing for. There are different types of questions but with the same objective to guess the words or phrases. Some questions they have to choose letters others the letters appear one by one and they have to guess it when they can.
